Two people, same situation, different stress

Why is it that 2 people can experience the same situation (have the same thing happen to them) and for one person the stress is positive (works for them) and for the other person the stress is negative (works against them)?

Take a look at how Emma and Skye handle the task of speaking in front of the class.

I love talking in front of the class even though at first it”s a bit nerve wracking

Skye feels excited (nervous), confident, can’t wait for her turn.

The situation created positive stress for Skye.

I’m dreading the talk because I hate people looking at me, I will probably stuff up

Emma feels worried, nervous, uptight.

The situation created negative stress for Emma.

It all depends on how people view a situation and because we are all UNIQUE individuals (no one else is EXACTLY like you), people will respond to ‘stressful’ situations in different ways.

An important message from Matt

Remember, what is stressful for one person may not be stressful for another.
