Stressed out? So what?
THINK "everything always goes wrong for me!"
Stress is part of everyone's life and remember it can either work for us or against us, so what's the big deal about it?
The big deal is that stress can build up over a long period of time and this can cause extra wear and tear on our bodies. Thinking negative thoughts and feeling worried, scared or angry takes up a lot of energy and this can make us tired and sick.
Below are some situations that cause stress for some people:
- having problems with parents, teachers or friends
- running late
- getting behind in school work
- not understanding new work
- feeling like you will never catch up on everything you have to do
- trying to do too many things at once
- not doing your best at school/sport
We all have times when we are in situations like these and we manage them without too many problems. But there may be times when the situations seem to happen one after the other or all at once and we can't seem to get a grip and we end up in a panic. Eventually we can get zapped of our energy and we may fall in a heap because we are so drained from all the stress in our lives! Or we can explode because of stress.
Stress can stop people from getting the most out of their lives, and this can affect our mental health.
