Stress and behaviour

Stress affects all people

It can change the way a person thinks and the way a person feels, and it can cause changes to a person’s body.

The connection

Behaviour is the result of what a person may be thinking, what a person may be feeling or what's happening to the person's body.

These cartoons show this connection.

Emma's dog dies                          "What will I do without Zoe?"
Zoe is buried                          Dog’s collar
        event                                                     think

Sad and lonely                              Won't talk to anyone
Thinking of Zoe                         In bed
            feel                                                  do

Emma's sad response is what you may expect in this situation. It is natural to be sad if your pet dies. But if Emma stayed feeling sad for too long it could stop her from getting on with her life.

Worksheet – Emma's dog dies

What to do : Write or draw to show what Emma could think or do to make her feel better..

  • What was the SITUATION ?
  • What did you DO ?
  • How did you FEEL ?
  • What were you THINKING ?

Here are some ideas for different ways to record your story.

  • write about it,
  • draw one scene that tells it all,
  • design a cartoon strip,
  • make a collage of magazine cut outs
